Located between two of Sydney's most prominent heritage buildings, the Strand Arcade and Dymocks, the Mid City development at 420 George Street is a vibrant and sophisticated mixed-use development.
It is comprised of four floors of prime retail space, and an environmentally sustainable 28 floor commercial office tower. An at grade pedestrian thoroughfare through the retail mall will directly link George Street to the Pitt Street Mall precinct.
The project architect is Bates Smart. The Lend Lease Structural Design team is responsible for the concept design, and the detailed design and construction phase services for all structural components of the building. Lend Lease design also provided additional design services for the building maintenance systems and facade/structure coordination, particularly the projecting architectural facade and roof features.
Bovis Lend Lease is responsible for project management and construction, and Lend Lease Retail is handling the leasing and ongoing property management. The development is jointly owned by Fortius Funds Management and APPF (a Lend Lease managed fund).
This presentation provides an overview of the architectural context and key technical structural engineering challenges that were resolved to construct the retail podium and commercial tower, between heritage building interfaces.
